As soon as the sun comes out, like it has today the question we are asked, is can we replace lenses in your non-prescription sunglasses. The answer in most cases is yes. If the lenses are fitted conventionally into the frame we can, even if the lenses are quite curved in a wrap-around style. The costs are normally between £22-30 per pair. We can do specalized polarized lenses or mirror coatings etc, please just ring/email and ask, we will do all we can to help.

What a brilliant few days of sun most will have had this week (apparently it’s going to change at the weekend!). It will come as no surprise that  the most searched for optics product was sunglasses! We get asked all the time if we can supply prescription tinted lenses, we can. They are for sale on the website for £22, most high street opticians will be wanting over £70 for the same thing. These are full UV blocking lenses and will block over 80% of the light and come in different colours, the most popular being grey, green and brown.

We can also replace damaged lenses in your non-prescription sunglasses too. You know, your favourite pair, they may not be expensive but they fit and you don’t want to change them but the lenses are all scratched. We can bring them back to full working order for the same £22.

Reactions lenses are always an option, the ones that go darker in sunlight and go clear again inside, we sell them for as little as £45!

There are many other options too, high index tinted, bifocal tinted, varifocals also. We started supplying mirror coated prescription lenses last year with great results. They look amazing and work even better!

Please ring on 01455 293417 and ask for details, or email to info@ciliaryblue.com

If you want to order non-prescription follow these instructions:

1.  In the right and left sphere drop down box select ‘plano/O’ for the power, leave cylinder and axis boxes empty.

2.  For the p.d put any figure in, as the lenses have no power the p.d isn’t important but you must enter a figure.

3.  Select that they are to be used for distance, then choose lens types.

4.  The tinted lenses are ‘standard tinted’ for £22. Once selected it will ask which colour…

The Optician magazine this week reported that: sales of sunglasses have increased for the second year since the all time high in 2007. This equated to sales in May of over 87,000 pairs sold through optical preacticies. In reality this figure will be much higher if you add-in the number sold via the internet and non-opitcal stores. We have seen a huge increase in the sale of prescription tinted lenses and the reactions lenses too. This is said to be down to the great Summer sun!

The sales of prescription-type frames was still in decline generally, the only sector increasing was the frames below £45 and above £220, which just demonstrates how polarized the optical high street has become.

We’re still baffled why more of the public don’t buy the frames really cheaply on the internet  (after locating in-store on the high street) then have them glazed by us at ciliaryblue, the savings to be had are huge.

So please research and compare.

We have been working with our web designers ‘cagedfish’ so that we can now offer tinted sunglass lenses, in grey, green and brown on our website. They can now be ordered directly online. It is up and running now and working fine. Thank you to cagedfish.

ciliaryblue can reglaze glasses for you with standard prescription single vision lenses tinted in either grey, green or brown for only £22. Theses lenses give full UV protection. This price includes all postage, packing and glazing charges. Probably the cheapest you’ll find anywhere? These lenses need to be ordered manually, so ring on  0845 6262008 or email us at info@ciliaryblue.com and we will process your order for you. Once ordered a pre-paid, pre-addressed box will be sent to you to send the frames to us, we will then reglaze and send straight back, a simple easy process.
