Eyecare vouchers are issued by an employer to employees to help with payment towards their glasses, particularly if some of the work is done using visual display screens.

Many employees want to keep their existing frames so want to ‘reglaze’ them with new up-to-date lenses. We can now accept the Eyecare Vouchers, which means for many customers they will be able to claim enough back to cover fully coated anti-glare/scratch lenses that function brilliantly for this type of work.

Lens prices in France, make make the UK high street look cheap!

We have seen a huge increase in orders from France recently, all of the customers are English speaking. I spoke with one of the customers today and found out why the increase. Cost, of course! He wanted to order uncoated bifocal lenses only for his own frame, the cost was a staggering 350 euros in old money £280+! We charge £30! So if you live in France, call or email and we will beat any prices the French have to offer!

‘Street of Dreams’ Coronation Street Musical.

Good luck for the first night of the musical Street of Dreams tonight at the Manchester Arena.

Our favourite and respected Vintage frame seller Autie Aviator Eyewear supplied frames for the show and we, ciliaryblue supplied the lenses. They all looked very good, very 60′s, 70′s and 80′s!

Postage Costs with Ciliaryblue

We have had to put up the costs of our postage as from Monday 30th April. The Royal Mail has increased their costs by more than 20% in most cases. We still send out our usual pre-paid/addressed box but now do it with 2nd class mail; this rarely takes longer than 1st class mail in our own tests. You can opt for first class if you wish but there is a £2 surcharge for this. Recorded and special delivery is still options and have gone up in line with their charges (£7 and £15 respectively). For interest the cost of a box to send 1st class 5 years ago was 69pence it is now £2.36!We have absorbed the costs every year but we have had to bow down this time and make some changes.

We will of course continue to offer all the same services as usual.

Tinted lenses for your glasses?

What a brilliant few days of sun most will have had this week (apparently it’s going to change at the weekend!). It will come as no surprise that the most searched for optics product was sunglasses! We get asked all the time if we can supply prescription tinted lenses, we can. They are for sale on the website for £22, most high street opticians will be wanting over £70 for the same thing. These are full UV blocking lenses and will block over 80% of the light and come in different colours, the most popular being grey, green and brown.

We can also replace damaged lenses in your non-prescription sunglasses too. You know, your favourite pair, they may not be expensive but they fit and you don’t want to change them but the lenses are all scratched. We can bring them back to full working order for the same £22.

Reactions lenses are always an option, the ones that go darker in sunlight and go clear again inside, we sell them for as little as £45!

There are many other options too, high index tinted, bifocal tinted, varifocals also. We started supplying mirror coated prescription lenses last year with great results. They look amazing and work even better!

If you want to order non-prescription follow these instructions:

1. In the right and left sphere drop down box select ‘plano/O’ for the power, leave cylinder and axis boxes empty.

2. For the p.d put any figure in, as the lenses have no power the p.d isn’t important but you must enter a figure.

3. Select that they are to be used for distance, then choose lens types.

4. The tinted lenses are ‘standard tinted’ for £22. Once selected it will ask which colour…

Optical Inserts

What is an optical insert? Some of the very curved or wrap-around glasses just cannot accommodate a prescription lens, some goggles are just too big to take a prescription lens. So the manufacturers make a small spectacle shaped template that fits securely behind the main lens that is designed to take a prescription lens. We have fitted single vision, bifocals and varifocals to these. As they fit behind the tinted or coated main lens the lenses we fit are clear, non-tinted. Some customers opt for the MAR/UC (ultra-clean lenses) as they are less prone to misting up and require far less cleaning. Absolutely amazing, we had a pair of glasses sent in yesterday to be glazed with the prescription from Boots. On the prescription the Otpician had suggested 1.74 index lenses, the thinnest and most expensive for single vision! The prescription was only -1.50-ish! We can’t even get them in that power, they start at -2! The suggested price was £270 we did them for less than a 1/4 of the price and they will look just as good and last much longer. Please be aware of the advice given whe it comes to selling.

As soon as the sun comes out, like it has today the question we are asked, is can we replace lenses in your non-prescription sunglasses. The answer in most cases is yes. If the lenses are fitted conventionally into the frame we can, even if the lenses are quite curved in a wrap-around style. The costs are normally between £22-30 per pair. We can do specalized polarized lenses or mirror coatings etc, please just ring/email and ask, we will do all we can to help.

Free Ultra-clean coating this week.

For all varifocal and bifocal lenses ordered over the phone with anti-glare/scratch coating as standard the extra ultra-clean coating will be supplied free (worth £10). This coating will mean much less cleaning, easier cleaning and less steaming up too! Worth a phone call we think.
